New cardiovascular director hired at KU

Kansas University Medical Center has hired Buddhadeb Dawn to serve as its director of the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases.

Dawn previously served as professor of medicine in the division of cardiology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Kentucky, the director of the Chest Pain Center at the University of Louisville Hospital and a staff physician in several Louisville-area hospitals.

At KU Med, Dawn also will serve as vice chairman for research in the department of internal medicine. In the roles, he will help develop an infrastructure for cardiovascular research and assist in overall research efforts of the department of internal medicine.

His previous research efforts have focused on using adult stem cells to generate tissue to repair a damaged heart.
