Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 27, 1909: An awful blow will descend upon the heads of a few student rooming house landladies in the next few days. Fire Chief Reinisch has been looking up the fire escape law and has ruled that all houses that have 20 or more people staying there must obey the provisions of the law, which would require many fire escapes where none now exist. … While there has not been a great deal of gambling in Lawrence, what there is will be stamped out by enforcement of new laws about gambling.”
