Junior Danielle Husted bowled a personal best Thursday with a 246. Lawrence High School bowling team hosted a varsity tri meet at Roayl Crest Lanes Thursday with Oskaloosa and Leavenworth.

It may seem a bit harsh considering the man has taught her everything she knows about the sport, but maybe Kurt Husted shouldn’t come watch his daughter Danielle bowl anymore.

Danielle, a junior bowler at LHS, ripped off a lifetime-best 247 in Lawrence’s triangular Thursday with her father absent from the competition.

“It makes it a little easier,” Danielle joked. “My dad is an excellent bowler, so he makes me a little nervous. He doesn’t try to be intimidating, but he kind of is.”

Before Kurt considers himself banned from Royal Crest Lanes when his daughter is in action, it is important to note that Danielle had other driving forces behind her stellar three-game series that totaled 588 pins.

“I just felt really comfortable because (Royal Crest) is our home,” she said. “My dad has also worked with me a lot lately on my technique and staying consistent.”

Despite Husted’s record day, the LHS girls took second place behind Leavenworth with 1,842 points. Alexah Gudenkauf finished second on the team with a series of 491.

While none of them exhibited a 247-like performance, the LHS boys were strong from top to bottom, earning them first place in the triangular over Oskaloosa and Leavenworth. The team finished with 2,357 points, 25 pins ahead of the Pioneers.

Ben Wyatt led the way for his squad with a 613 three-game total. Chad Boyd finished just behind him, rolling a 604.
