Young homicide victims mourned

? Friends and family gathered Monday in the northeast Kansas town of Carbondale to remember three young children whose bodies were found last week in their burned home.

Osage County authorities say Michael L. Shirley killed his children Jan. 12, then set fire to the living room of their home in nearby Scranton and shot himself. The fire killed the 52-year-old.

The children’s mother was at work at the time.

The funeral services for Ethan, Ashten and Caleb Shirley were conducted at the K-8 school in Carbondale, where the children were students.

During the service, people inside sang hymns, while others stood outside in a line holding American flags.
