Editor’s note: Today’s letters to the editor are from Southwest Junior High students learning about persuasive writing.

To the editor:

Drunk driving should be stopped. Even though there is a law about it, people still do this dirty stunt. People should know not to drink and drive. Drunk driving causes car crashes. According to infoplease.com in 2004, 39 percent of the people that died in a car crash died because of drunk driving.

Drunk driving can get you in a lot of trouble, too. In 2006, there were 1,460,498 people were arrested because of drunk driving. Drunk driving will also affect your insurance. If you are accused of drunk driving in most states for at least three years you car insurance is going to go up.

Drunk driving can also affect the way you live. According to the Kansas Department of Transportation if you drive drunk in Kansas, you will get your license taken away for 30 days. Also, you can go to jail for 90 days to a year and pay a fine of $1,000 to $1,500 in the state of Kansas. Either way anybody who drinks and drives will be in a lot of trouble. I know people like to drive, so I hope people who drink stay clean when they drive.
