Obama has young — and unlikely — fan in Lawrence

There was a struggle over the TV remote at the Cornum household Tuesday.

The conflict: Presidential inauguration coverage or any other programming.

Spencer and Nicky Cornum, both lifelong Republicans, opted for the latter. It was their 3-year-old son, Tavi, who chose coverage of Barack Obama taking the oath of office.

“Bak Obama, me love him,” said Tavin, presumed Democrat.

Tavin’s parents say he became an Obama fan during debates before the primary elections, and has been cheering him on ever since.

“He has been consistent the whole time,” said Nicky Cornum, Tavin’s mother. “We thought it was pretty funny.”

Tavin spent Tuesday afternoon drawing pictures of President Obama on the parade route waving to the crowd.

When asked why he likes Barack Obama, Tavin simply said, “Because he’s a good man.”

That makes one fan of Barack Obama in the Cornum household.
