Eudora girls rout De Soto; Baldwin loses to Paola

Eudora 60, De Soto 36

De Soto — Haley Epperson scored 23 points, and Bailey Scott scored 18 points and hit four threes to lead Eudora High’s girls basketball team to a victory Friday night.

It was a back-and-forth game in the early minutes as each team traded baskets and the lead until Eudora’s Shea Lounsbury scored inside to give Eudora the lead at 11-9. The Cardinals (7-1, 2-0) led 32-20 at the half, but De Soto (2-6, 0-2) cut the lead to 41-34 early in the fourth quarter on a basket by Katie Williams. But Eudora went on a 19-2 run to close out the game.

Williams and Kelsey Fisher each scored nine points for DeSoto.

Both Eudora and De Soto will play in the Tonganoxie Invitational next week.

Paola 64, Baldwin 51

Paola — Baldwin senior Tracie Weege scored a game-high 23 points as the Bulldogs tried to knock off the No. 2 team in Class 4A. Sophomore Ramie Burkhart added 15 points.

Santa Fe Trail 46, Perry-Lecompton 40

Perry — Katie Hirsch scored 13 points to lead all scorers, but it wasn’t enough as Santa Fe Trail used an 18-point fourth quarter to pull ahead.

Hayley Schaffer led Santa Fe Trail with 10 points.

Perry (1-5) takes on Oskaloosa on Tuesday.

Santa Fe Trail (2-4) will play Paola on Tuesday in the Burlington tournament.

Oskaloosa 46, Doniphan West 26

Highland — Oskaloosa used a 15-3 second quarter to pull away from Doniphan West.

Oskie improved to 7-1 overall, 3-0 in the Delaware Valley League.

Piper 48, Tonganoxie 20

Kansas City, Kan. — The Chieftains struggled mightily from the floor, going 5-for-38, as they suffered their first Kaw Valley League loss of the season.

Senior point guard Chrissie Jeannin had 12 points and eight rebounds for THS (5-2 overall, 3-1 KVL).

The Chieftains open the Tonganoxie Invitational at 6 p.m. Tuesday against De Soto.
