Baltimore ? Local governments are warning people who want to see President-elect Barack Obama as he passes through on his “whistle stop” tour to stay away from the railroad tracks.

Instead, people are being encouraged to gather at designated spots along the Philadelphia-to-Washington route Saturday. Anyone who approaches the tracks is in danger from high-power lines and trains traveling on the tracks.

In 1968, a crash in Elizabeth, N.J., killed two people who had come to see Robert F. Kennedy’s funeral train. They were hit by a train traveling in the opposite direction.

The Maryland Emergency Management Agency says the train may slow down, but no stops are scheduled.

The Secret Service says some overpasses along the route will be secured.
