Local scouts test engineering skills in Pinewood Derby

Local Cub Scouts participated in the Pinewood Derby Saturday at Prairie Park School. It’s a rite of passage for Cub Scouts. Hours spent in the basement with your dad, whittling a block of wood, shaping it for maximum speed, lathering it in lacquered paint, countless test-drives on the kitchen floor. Some are lucky enough to have pinewood cars that zip across the racetrack. Others are less fortunate. The Pinewood Derby first took place in 1953.
