Charges filed against Lawrence High student who admitted taking gun to school

Charges have been filed against a Lawrence High School student who admitted taking a gun to school, prosecutors said.

The 17-year-old senior told a worker on Jan. 20 that he had brought a gun to campus four days earlier, school officials said.

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson’s office filed charges of criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of weapons, for carrying a concealed firearm.

The charges were filed Feb. 11 and the student is scheduled for a first appearance at 4 p.m. March 5, Branson said.

In a case filed last April, the suspect entered a diversion agreement with prosecutors on charges of burglary, theft and criminal damage to property, prosecutors said. A hearing has been scheduled for 11 a.m. March 5, on a motion by prosecutors to revoke the diversion agreement.
