Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 16, 1909: “If present plans are realized, the Kansas City and Olathe Electric Railroad will be extended from its present terminus at Shawnee, Kan., to Topeka, by way of Lawrence. This is the third electric line agency to express an interest in Lawrence and representatives say they are sure the line can be brought through Lawrence. … Three little Indian boys ran away from Haskell last night and before reaching shelter they were nearly frozen. The boys apparently got a wild streak before bedtime and lit out from the school. They were found missing when bed check was made. … Severe blizzards have hit to the east of here, with Chicago being struck two days in a row. Even the railroads are blocked by the heavy snows in the Midwest. Cleveland also has been hit hard.”
