Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino promoted two members of his staff Thursday, six weeks after the Jayhawks finished the 2008 season 8-5 and beat Minnesota in the Insight Bowl.

Ed Warinner, who already held the titles of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, is now the team’s associate head coach, as well, while recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach Brandon Blaney will add assistant offensive line coach to his list of duties.

“Ed and Brandon are very deserving of these promotions,” Mangino said. “They will continue to have a positive impact on our offense with their expanded responsibilities.”

In just two seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator, Warinner has helped establish Kansas’ offensive attack as one of the nation’s best. Last season, the Jayhawks finished among the top 25 nationally in passing (eighth overall with 305.6 yards per game), total offense (21st, 432.4 yards per game) and scoring (22nd, 33.4 points per game), and in 2007, KU was second in the nation in scoring with 42.8 points per game and eighth in total offense with 479.8 yards per game.

Blaney, meanwhile, who helped develop eventual NFL draft pick and current Buffalo Bills tight end Derek Fine during his time in Lawrence, will now assist primary offensive line coach John Reagan.

Kansas will begin spring practice on March 9 and will hold its annual Spring Game on April 11, although kickoff time has yet to be announced.
