Darrell Wyatt, currently the associate head coach/offensive coordinator at Southern Mississippi, is expected to join new Kansas University football coach Turner Gill’s staff in the coming days, according to Rivals.com.

Wyatt will be making his second stop in Lawrence, where he coached four seasons at Kansas from 1997 to 2000, serving as receivers coach and eventually offensive coordinator and associate head coach under Terry Allen.

During a 21-year career that has included stops at nine college programs and a one-year stint as receivers coach for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, Wyatt has earned a reputation for developing a number of standout receivers, including Oklahoma’s Mark Clayton and Mark Bradley, and most

recently, Southern Mississippi’s DeAndre Brown.

In two seasons at Southern Miss., meanwhile, Wyatt helped the Golden Eagles’ offense to one of their most successful stretches in school history. Last season, the team broke 36 offensive school records, and finished ranked 20th nationally in total offense, while this year’s team finished 7-6, falling 42-32 to Middle Tennessee in the New Orleans Bowl.

Wyatt joins offensive coordinator Chuck Long, defensive coordinator Carl Torbush, special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Aaron Stamn and running backs coach Reggie Mitchell as the known members of the Jayhawks’ new coaching staff.
