? Ethan Kay scored 17 points, and Elijah Penny scored 16 as Veritas Christian School defeated the Wichita Defenders, 53-44, on Friday night in high school boys basketball.

The Eagles held off the Defenders in the fourth quarter by hitting all eight of their free throws.

“I was really proud of how we hit our free throws when they were making a run at us,” Veritas coach Gary Hammer said. “We played a good team.”

Veritas also had a 29-15 rebound advantage and committed just 10 turnovers.

Ethan Scott added eight points for Veritas, and Nate Scott and Thomas Bachert scored six apiece.

Veritas (2-3) will play Jan. 5 at home against Topeka Cornerstone.

Eudora — Madi Bennett and Kristen Finger led Veritas (1-4) with six points apiece.

The Eagles were outscored 20-5 in the fourth quarter.
