Runza restaurants donate book money

All 83 Runza restaurants in Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa and Kansas donated 15 percent of sales Sept. 22 to purchase books for libraries, schools and school foundations in communities with a Runza location. The fundraiser, entitled “Great Books for Great Kids,” promotes the importance of reading and literacy.

This year’s effort raised $29,526. In the fundraiser’s seven-year history, more than $180,000 has been donated. The Runza chain was recognized by the National Restaurant Association in 2005 for the “Great Books for Great Kids” initiative and was awarded the Restaurant Good Neighbor Award in the large business category.

The Runza location in Lawrence, 2700 Iowa, raised $237.82 for the Lawrence Public Library.
