Veritas boys upended by Burrton, 68-39

December 8, 2009

— Despite two Eagles in double figures, Burrton ran away with a a 68-39 boys basketball victory against Veritas Christian Monday in the Bluebird Classic.

Elijah Penny scored 15 points, while Ethan Scott added 12 for the Eagles.

“Their defense was pretty tenacious and caused a lot of turnovers,” Veritas coach Gary Hammer said of the Chargers, “but our passing wasn’t very good.”

Burrton scored 24 points in the first quarter and never looked back.

The Chargers knocked down tough shots and played quick, aggressive defense, Hammer said.

The Eagles (0-2) will return to Goessel for their next tournament game at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
