KU student reports attempted aggravated robbery

Police seeking man who brandished handgun, demanded wallet near KU campus

A 23-year-old Kansas University student reported early Sunday that he was the victim of an attempted aggravated robbery.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Ted Bordman, the victim told police he was walking at about 2:15 a.m. on Emery Road between Stratford Road and University Drive when a man approached him and demanded his wallet while brandishing a handgun.

The victim reportedly told the suspect he did not have anything in his wallet, at which point the suspect took off northbound from the scene. Bordman said an officer was in the area responding to an unrelated call during the incident, and the suspect might have been scared off after seeing police.

The victim did not lose any property or suffer any injuries during the attempted robbery.

Police flooded the area immediately after the call was dispatched but the suspect was not apprehended.

The suspect was described as a 19-to-20-year-old black male, standing 5-foot-9 and wearing unknown clothing.
