Ann Weick and Jeanette Collier, both of Lawrence, were presented the Communication and Leadership award at the Toastmasters’ District 22 Fall Conference held Nov. 20 at the Kansas Museum of History in Topeka.

Weick served on the faculty of the Kansas University School of Social Welfare for 30 years and was dean of the school for 18 years before her retirement in 2006. Collier is a licensed master social worker and has been the coordinator for the East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corp.’s Douglas County Center for the past six years. For more than 25 years, Collier has served low-income and vulnerable populations as a teacher, social worker and advocate.

Weick and Collier were honored for co-founding the Just Food program associated with ECKAN. The program partners with farmers, master and community gardeners, churches and other social service agencies and private donors to coordinate the collection and distribution of food to many food pantries throughout the Lawrence area.

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit communication and leadership development organization founded 1924. District 22 covers all of Kansas and the western portion of Missouri.
