A bat found its way Monday morning into the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass., and the commotion forced the county clerk’s office to close briefly until an animal control officer could remove the flying creature.

“The bat was making its rounds, taking a complete tour of the courthouse,” said Keith Campbell, the Douglas County elections deputy at the clerk’s office.

The old courthouse houses a majority of the county’s administrative offices. County Administrator Craig Weinaug said before lunch he noticed the bat in his second-floor office before it flew down to the ground level and into the clerk’s office.

The clerk’s office closed for about 15 minutes until the animal control officer could remove the bat.

“The bat was pretty upset that it was being taken away,” Campbell said.

No one was injured, and Campbell said the animal control officer said she was going to release the bat outside.
