Health department earns national award

The National Association of County and City Health Officials recently awarded the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department a 2009 Model Practice Award.

The health department was honored for its project “Incorporating Core Public Health Service Measures into Human Interest Stories as a Means of Increasing Understanding of Public Health Services.” It was one of 23 health departments across the country to receive the award.

Dan Partridge, director, said the agency was proud to receive the award.

“The award is evidence of our commitment to develop innovative public health programs that improve the health of local residents,” he said.

The project has been added to an online database to share information with other agencies across the country.
