Army announces Fort Riley changes

? The Army has announced plans to convert a brigade at Fort Riley, part of several changes occurring at posts across the country.

The Army said Friday the 1st Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division will gradually add 2,440 soldiers as it ends its mission of training advisers for Iraq and Afghanistan. The brigade becomes a heavy brigade combat team with about 3,800 soldiers in all.

Also, a Fort Riley unit with 418 soldiers will move to White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. But Fort Riley will also gain a helicopter unit with 376 soldiers being moved from Fort Carson, Colo.

Fort Riley will have more than 18,000 soldiers when all the moves are complete.
