Emily Scott, a Kansas University assistant professor of medicinal chemistry, has received more than $300,000 in federal stimulus dollars to pursue her lung cancer research.

Scott’s research is directed at a particular lung enzyme, and she hopes to be able to find a way to prevent the enzyme from producing a carcinogen during nicotine processing.

The research has been awarded $303,150, which adds to the nearly $1.4 million already received from the National Institutes of Health for the same line of investigation.

The award will support collaboration with Jennifer Laurence, an assistant professor at KU’s department of pharmaceutical chemistry, who is an expert in nuclear magnetic resonance.
