Renewable energy jobs to be focus of discussions

Labor leaders and environmental advocates will conduct presentations next week on renewable energy jobs.

“The old tradeoff between jobs and environment is obsolete,” said Nancy Jackson, executive director of the Lawrence-based Climate and Energy Project.

“The new generation of green jobs can support families, improve our environment and sustain our communities,” Jackson said.

Representatives of environmental groups and unions and will talk about the potential development of jobs in wind and solar energy.

The presentations will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the CWA Local 6402 in Wichita; and on Thursday, Aug. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the USW Local 307 in Topeka; and 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at V’s Italian Restaurant in Independence, Mo.
