Charges filed in indecent liberties case

Prosecutors on Monday filed charges against a 26-year-old man alleging he fondled a 12-year-old girl on Sunday at an east Lawrence home.

Lawrence police arrested the man early Sunday morning.

The girl said the suspect entered her room and touched her inappropriately, according to police. Officers interviewed the victim’s parents and later arrested the 26-year-old man.

The Douglas County district attorney’s office Monday charged the man with committing aggravated indecent liberties with a child. A judge appointed defense attorney Kevin Babbit to represent the suspect and set bond at $200,000.

If the suspect makes bond, a judge ordered him not to go near the victim. He is scheduled to next appear in court at 9:30 a.m. today in front of District Judge Peggy Kittel.
