National Dive Champ: Ford McLiney won the boys 16-18 one-meter title at the Junior Olympics Nationals in Moultrie, Ga., to become the Jayhawk Diving Club’s first national champion. McLiney qualified for the Pan Am Games next month in Calgary. JDC’s Ellie Smart finished second in the girls 14-15 platform.

Roberts Leads JGC: Conrad Roberts shot 73-79–152 to win the Jayhawk Golf Club portion of the Alvamar Stroke Play Championship Saturday on the public side and Sunday on the private side. William Gantz shot 76-79–155. Next were Brent Mertz at 77-82–159 and Van Reichert 80-79–159. In net scoring, Ed Scholtes was low at 69-70–139 followed by Keith Wallace at 72-70–142 and Mike Hertling at 70-76–146.

Francis Medals: Carol Francis of Lawrence earned a third-place medal and two fifth-place ribbons in breaststroke swimming events at the National Senior Games in the San Francisco Bay area.

Benefit 5k: Head for the Cure 5k, a race to benefit the Chris Anthony Brain Tumor Research Fund and Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, will be Sept. 13 along the South Lawrence Trafficway bike path. For information, go to www.headforthecure.org.

Chauvin Hole-in-One: Keith Chauvin used an 8-iron to ace the 162-yard No. 7 hole at Lawrence Country Club. Witnesses were Dan Spencer, Maurice Joy and Doug Houston.
