The Roger Hill Volunteer Center is planning a Day of Action as a part of a nationwide service initiative on Sept. 11-12. Everyone is invited to participate in volunteer projects throughout the community. For more information, call Paige at 865-5030 or send e-mail to volunteer@ rhvc.org.

Immediate needs

• The Salvation Army is once again helping needy children with a Back to School Shoe Drive. The goal is to provide shoes for 75 children. Shoes will be distributed at noon Tuesday. Financial donations are needed, and can be mailed or dropped off at The Salvation Army Corps & Community Center, 946 N.H. For more information, contact Susan Dalberg at 843-4188, ext. 105.

• MOPS (Mothers Of Preschoolers) is looking for volunteers for the coming school year, to work in the MOPPETS rooms (the children’s rooms) during meetings. Meetings are from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. the first and third Tuesdays of each month during the school year. Volunteers could commit to a semester or for the year, or could be a substitute as needed. • Meals on Wheels is in great need of delivery drivers for summer, fall and winter. Volunteers will deliver approximately seven meals on a route, helping to feed senior citizens living throughout the Lawrence area. To volunteer, contact Kim Culliss at 830-8844 or 4mealsonwheels@sbcglobal

• Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care is seeking companion volunteers to help serve terminally ill patients in their home or facilities. Volunteers must be available for regular weekly assignments of two to three hours, and commit to a year of service. No prior medical knowledge is needed and volunteer training is provided.

The agency is also seeking trained massage therapists interested in volunteering massage to hospice clients. Therapists are preferred who could be available for regular once-weekly assignments if requested or needed by patient. Proof of professional training/instruction in massage therapy is required.
