Insurance official to seek re-election

? Sandy Praeger has confirmed that she will campaign for another term as state insurance commissioner.

She told The Topeka Capital-Journal for a story in its Sunday editions that her decision stems from a desire to be a player in development and implementation of a new approach to health insurance.

She already had been expected to seek a third term.

Praeger says overhaul of health care should include provisions that reduce long-term costs and block insurance providers from denying coverage because of pre-existing conditions.

The Lawrence Republican says there is “great quality care for people with coverage.” But she found fault with the system, saying it “doesn’t work.”

Also seeking the GOP nomination is David Powell, an El Dorado insurance company owner.
