Student robbed in broad daylight

Kansas University Public Safety officers are looking for two or three suspects after an armed robbery Sunday afternoon in a parking lot near McCollum Hall.

KU spokeswoman Jill Jess said in a statement that a male student reported a suspect approached him and demanded money. A gun was involved, Jess said. The suspect took cash from the victim, but no injuries were reported.

The suspect left in an older-model brownish-maroon sedan, which was possibly a 1980s model Chevrolet. One or two other people were in the car, Jess said.

KU has made counselors available to assist the victim.

Anyone with information in the case can call the public safety office at 785-864-5900 or KU Crime Stoppers, which handles anonymous reports, at 785-864-8888.

In the statement, KU public safety officials urged students to report any suspicious activity to police, and they also said students should take precautions, like walking in groups when possible.
