Extended legacy

To the editor:

I am thrilled to hear about the “Kansas Generations” legacy tuition program. The Kansas Board of Regents and state lawmakers are to be commended for their action.

I would, however, implore lawmakers and the Kansas Board of Regents to extend the benefits of this program beyond incoming freshman and to all out-state scholars who attend Kansas University.

Is it fair that KU legacy families with children who already attend KU be denied the same Kansas Generations benefits as incoming freshmen?

These economically difficult times have compounded the financial sacrifices many out-of-state families make to send children to KU.

We make this commitment because we believe in the unique value of an education at KU.

For the sake of fairness, our family respectfully requests that the Kansas Generations program be extended to all qualified out-state students.
