The Lawrence High School Focus Film Festival Awards were announced Sunday at Liberty Hall, 644 Mass.
More than 80 submissions were received from area high schools in 15 categories. Winners were:
Best Comedy: “The Ballad of Bryan Jaston” by Chase Billings, Ryan Hobbs and Cody Jones, Lawrence High School
Best Horror/Suspense: “The Tenants” by Christopher Smith, Dar Fornelli, Catherine Mize, Skyler Criswell and Josh Vineyard, Lawrence High School
Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy: “Untitled” by Hunter Matthews, Olathe Northwest High School
Best Drama: “Elise” by Luke McDaneld, Lawrence High School
Best Documentary: “Another Perspective” by Patrick Larson, Atchison High School
Best Animation: “Illinois Jenkins and the Quest for the Golden Skull” by Sean Simmons, Lawrence High School
Best Experimental: “Transformer” by Luke McDaneld and Kyler Thomann, Lawrence High School
Best Music Video: “The Dream” by Dar Fornelli and Catherine Mize, Lawrence High School
Best Music Video/Original Music: “Unfocused Lens” by Hunter Matthews, Zach Taylor, Austin Haugh and Elsa Pageler, Olathe Northwest High School
Best Acting: Ryan Hobbs as “Bryan Jaston” in “The Ballad of Bryan Jaston,” Lawrence High School
Honorable Mention for Acting: Josh Vineyard as “Scott” in “Grimm’s Room,” Lawrence High School
Best Editing: Luke McDaneld and Kyler Thomann for “Transformer,” Lawrence High School
Best Cinematography: Christopher Smith and Dar Fornelli for “The Tenants,” Lawrence High School
Honorable Mention for Cinematography: Taylor King, Brandon Sieve, Gage Adams, Nolan Ligget, Natalie Birzer, Andrea Schwageri, Kyle Stone and Andrew Novak for “The Key to Revenge,” Blue Valley West High School
