Kansas University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will honor four distinguished alumni during an event today at the Kansas Union.

World-renowned Duke University biochemist Robert Hill and Jacqueline Z. Davis, executive director of the New York Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, will be on campus to accept their awards.

The college will also play video tributes to the other two winners — Sheila Bair, chairwoman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., and Judge Deanell Reece Tacha, a Lawrence resident who serves on the 10th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

In December, Dean Joseph E. Steinmetz, who is also KU’s interim provost, announced the four were recipients of the 2008-2009 Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award.

They will be honored during the Deans Club Banquet at 7 p.m. in the Kansas Union ballroom. A reception will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

“While these four extraordinary individuals have distinguished themselves in diverse fields, a broad liberal arts and sciences education provided the foundation for all of them to make a difference in their communities and in the world,” Steinmetz said.

Hill and Davis are also scheduled to meet with KU students, faculty and staff at events on campus during the day.
