Among projects expected to affect travel in Lawrence and the region during the coming week:

Lawrence

• The right lane for traffic headed west on Sixth Street, near Queens Road, is closed to accommodate widening of the street. The right-turn lane for traffic headed into St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church also is closed; through traffic should be aware of drivers slowing to turn into the church.

• The southbound lane of Massachusetts Street, from Ninth to 10th streets in downtown Lawrence, is scheduled to be closed this week for replacement of crosswalks.

• Drivers may encounter brief periods of slow traffic as construction continues for a new U.S. Highway 59 between Lawrence and Ottawa.

• City crews are scheduled to fill cracks Monday on sections of Sixth Street, North Second Street and North Iowa Street. Such work will close several hundred feet of a single lane at a time, with each closure lasting for a few hours.

• A section of East 902 Road, below the Clinton Lake dam, is closed for resurfacing. The city’s Mutt Run Dog Park is closed, and access to Eagle Bend Golf Course is limited to traffic coming in from the south, on East 902 Road from south of the dam. The project is expected to last into mid-April.

• The right lane for traffic headed west on Sixth, from Folks Road to the intersection with Wakarusa Drive, is closed for extension of an existing right-turn lane. Traffic headed north on Wakarusa, from just south of Sixth to a point just south of Overland Drive, also is limited to one lane to accommodate work related to construction in the area.

• Wakarusa, from Sixth to Inverness Drive, is set to be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction to accommodate road repairs.

• Drivers should expect delays while being directed through a work zone at 15th Street and Harper Avenue.

• Traffic continues to be limited along streets adjacent to the construction site for The Oread, near the northern end of Kansas University’s main campus.

Baldwin City

• Orange Street, immediately east of Sixth Street, will be closed Monday in Baldwin City to accommodate construction of a detour that will allow for resumption of a suspended road project.

U.S. Highway 24

• Right lane will be closed to traffic headed west over the Goodyear Road bridge in Topeka. Repairs are expected to be finished Tuesday.

Interstate 70

• Interstate 70 will have intermittent lane closures, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from the Gage Boulevard interchange to the Kansas Highway 4/Auburn Road interchange in Topeka. Work will start on lanes for traffic headed west, then switch to those for traffic headed east. Crews will be replacing reflectors along a barrier wall.

• The westbound-to-northbound Turner Diagonal ramp will be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday for work on overhead signs in Wyandotte County.

Turner Diagonal

• The northbound right lane of the Turner Diagonal will be closed at Riverview Avenue in Leavenworth County from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday for work on overhead signs.

Interstate 470

• Sections of Interstate 470 will have intermittent lane closures, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, in both directions in Shawnee County so that crews can repair damaged guardrails.

Interstate 435

• Traffic headed south on Interstate 435 continues to be limited to two lanes crossing a bridge over the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Wyandotte County, about a third of a mile northeast of the interchange of I-435 and Kansas Highway 5/North 93rd Street.

Work is being conducted weekdays, during daylight hours, with occasional Saturday work.

• The right lane for traffic headed north on I-435, from the Kansas River to Kansas Highway 32, is set to be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday for pavement-sealing work.
