LHS soccer wins Invite

? Lawrence High’s soccer team defeated McPherson, 2-0, in Saturday’s championship game of the McPherson Invitational.

Freshman Natalie Wilkins and senior Megan Andrews scored unassisted goals for the Lions, who went 3-0 at the tourney in outscoring McPherson, Augusta and Andover Central, 12-1.

Senior Emma Lumpe recorded the shutout Saturday as LHS outshot McPherson, 27-3. Junior left back Olivia Dykes was named MVP of the tournament, while midfielders Becky Davis and Stef Stuever made the all-tournament team.

“It’s probably the most dominating 2-0 game we’ll be part of,” LHS coach Matt Anderson said. “Even with a 30 mph wind, we only allowed three shots. We played a nice, disciplined brand of soccer. It’s nice to start out with a championship.”
