Lawrence police are investigating a burning item found early Friday morning in the 1800 block of Miller Drive.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical collected and quickly extinguished the incendiary device, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl.

“It could have been an attempt at a molotov cocktail,” Hadl said. “It didn’t break, it was just burning in the middle of the street.”

Authorities responded about 1:20 a.m. after a resident reported the flaming object.

As of Friday morning, police had not identified any suspects and were still gathering information, Hadl said.
