Lawrence baseball shuts out T-Birds

April 2, 2009

— Lawrence High’s baseball team shut out Shawnee Heights, 8-0, Wednesday at Lake Shawnee.

Three Lions pitchers combined for the one-hit shutout. Albert Minnis got the win, striking out six in five innings. Mitch Witson took over in the sixth, striking out the side. In the seventh inning, Taylor Gentry struck out two.

“Anytime you beat a team like that, you feel good,” LHS coach Brad Stoll said about the T-Birds, who played in last year’s state tournament.

Devin Forio went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Lions. Clint Pinnick also had a two-RBI double, and Aaron Rea scored two runs and stole two bases.

After a couple of recent rainouts, Stoll said his team was excited to be back on the field.

The Lions (1-2) will play Shawnee Mission North at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Ice Field.

It is great to see the Lions play in Kansas finally. I sure wish Coach Stoll would regain is colorful quotes though. That one was pretty boring.
