New subdivision regulations approved

Douglas County Commissioners on Monday morning approved changes to subdivision regulations about environmentally protected areas.

No one from the public spoke about the changes. The planning department had made written changes to clarify definitions in the county about natural resources and environmentally sensitive areas that are to be protected or preserved in the county.

Commissioners Bob Johnson and Charles Jones supported the amendments. Commissioner Jere McElhaney did not attend the meeting but had told Johnson by phone earlier that he supported them.

The commission also declared Sunday through Oct. 11 as National 4-H Week in Douglas County.

Jim Denney, director of the county’s emergency communications department for 11 years who will retire at the end of the week, also thanked commissioners and administrators for their support of the department.

Commissioners next meet at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.
