Water flow system sets off fire alarm; Southwest Junior High evacuated

Southwest Junior High was evacuated this morning after the water flow pressure system set off the fire alarm.

The district’s operation and facility planning division director, Tom Bracciano said that the alarm will sound when the system senses water flowing through the pipes that lead to the sprinklers.

“If the alarm went off, that means water was flowing through the pipes,” he said. “The flow switch is probably bad.”

Lawrence/Douglas County Fire and Medical responded to the scene. They gave students and staff the all-clear after it was determined there was no fire.

District staff will be looking into the problem. All students are back in class.
