From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 23, 1908: The Interurban Construction Co. composed of Lawrence men is due to start work on the preliminary survey of an electric line route between Lawrence and Topeka. As soon as this survey is made the same party will start work immediately and lay out a line between here and Kansas City. : More local teachers will have to be hired due to the unexpected increase in fall enrollment. The first week closed with some 54 unexpected pupils in public schools.”
