On more than one occasion last Saturday, the Kansas backfield featured a pair of running backs – junior Jake Sharp and junior transfer Jocques Crawford – alongside quarterback Todd Reesing.

The formation, which proved to be marginally successful against Florida International, served multiple purposes, according to Mangino.

“I think it’s just another look that you give people,” he said. “It’s another thing that they have to prepare for. It’s a chance to get two good athletes in the backfield on the field at the same time. Both are ball carriers, yet both can still catch the football.”
