To the editor:

Your editorial (Oct. 27) must have been based on the McCain talking points or written by a McCain staffer. The editorial claims that Sen. McCain will bring about real change in Washington. How is that possible when his campaign staff and closest advisers are credentialed lobbyists for corporate entities that created the current economic mess? McCain posing as a maverick and agent of change is nothing more than a Trojan horse for those folks.

Your attempt to spread fear by uttering the word socialism is almost comical, and your tax-and-spend mantra is typical of the same old tired, trite Republican cliches. In case you haven’t noticed, the concept of “redistribution of wealth” isn’t a new liberal concept. The government has been in that business since 1933 with the introduction of Social Security, which was created because another Republican administration created the stock market crash of ’29 and the Great Depression.

I would add that the current Republican administration, including John McCain, passed the recent economic stimulus package, which is nothing more than another form of the “redistribution of wealth.” Let us not forget all the corporate tax breaks and incentives that are another form of wealth redistribution targeted to the already wealthy.

Far from changing the system of government, Barack Obama will open the doors for those who cannot buy a lobbyist to gain control once again of government and have a real impact on legislation that affects their daily lives. That is real change.
