Lawrence High soccer game postponed

Senior night for Lawrence High’s boys soccer team will have to wait another day.

That is, if the Lions even get to play their home finale.

Tuesday night’s game against Olathe South at Youth Sports, Inc. was called off less than 10 minutes into the contest, stopped at the 30:46 mark of the first half in a 0-0 tie because of lightning in the area.

LHS principal Steve Nilhas announced the postponement following a stoppage that was supposed to be just 20 minutes.

No official announcement had been made on rescheduling, although Lions coach Matt Anderson said the game could be played at 5:30 p.m. today at YSI. If poor weather conditions remain, an outright cancellation is possible, Anderson said.

Sub-state seeding meetings for coaches are to be held on Saturday, meaning the Lions would have only today or Friday to reschedule.

Lawrence (4-9-1, 1-7-1 in Sunflower League play) travels to Shawnee Mission South on Thursday night for what is supposed to be the final game of the regular season.
