Pink ribbons to raise cancer awareness

Pink ribbons recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month will decorate Lawrence lampposts starting today.

The ribbons, a reminder to women to get mammograms, will be tied around lampposts along Massachusetts Street from Sixth to 11th streets and down Clinton Parkway between Iowa Street and Kasold Drive.

Lawrence Memorial Hospital will be host to the 16th annual Stepping Out Against Breast Cancer Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 25, at Crown Automotive, 3430 S. Iowa.

Proceeds will pay for mammograms for women who are uninsured or underinsured, breast cancer awareness and education materials, as well as prosthetics and wigs for women who can’t afford them.

The $35 tickets can be purchased at Weavers, all Central National Bank locations, the LMH Gift Shop and the LMH Endowment office. Those who purchase tickets in advance will receive a pink ribbon to tie around a tree.
