From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 12, 1908: “Black caps with green buttons for every freshman at the university is the new goal as upperclassmen strive to put some distinctive mark on the first-year men. Freshmen say they will wear the black caps but refuse to obey the remainer of the ‘rules’ set by the older students. : Bert Kennedy’s Jayhawk football team says it was fortunate to escape from the Oct. 10 Manhattan Aggie football game here with a 12-6 victory.”
