Sustainable business tour to roll through Lawrence on Saturday

A trio of events on creating a sustainable community will be sponsored by the city in the next several days.

On Saturday, the city will host a guided bus tour of four Lawrence companies that incorporate sustainable business practices.

The tour will start at 9 a.m. at Zarco Earth Friendly Fuels, 900 Iowa. Other stops on the tour include the Bowersock Mills and Power Company, The Castle Tea Room, and the Community Mercantile. There is an $8 charge for adults and $2 for children 14 and under. Tickets should be purchased in advance by calling 832-3030.

On Wednesday, the city will sponsor a lecture by Nancy Jackson, the executive director of the Climate and Energy Project. The event will be at 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

The series of events will conclude with the 8th Annual Lawrence Energy Conservation Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive.

The free event will feature speakers on home weatherization, energy efficient remodeling, solar energy usage, and other topics.
