Lawrence men charged in recent auto burglaries

Two Lawrence men have been charged in Douglas County District Court in connection with recent car break-ins.

William Francis Jackson, 25, is charged with felony aggravated burglary and misdemeanor theft. Police said they found the suspect with property from an Aug. 29 car burglary in the 2500 block of University Drive and with a purse that was stolen from a car parked in the garage of a home in the 2200 block of Marvonne Road.

Jackson was arrested at his Lawrence home Monday afternoon and had his first appearance in front of Judge Paula Martin Tuesday afternoon. Jackson was booked into Douglas County Jail and his bond was set at $20,000. He’s scheduled to be back in court at 2 p.m. Nov. 6.

In an unrelated incident, 22-year-old Richard Sieliet is charged with one count of felony vehicle burglary. He was arrested Sunday night, after officers responded to an automobile burglary in the 500 block of Michigan Street, where several witnesses saw a man in a vehicle, Lawrence Police Sgt. Bill Cory said.

“When confronted by the witnesses, the suspect ran from the area west on Sixth (Street),” Cory said.

Sieliet was arrested in the 2000 block of West Sixth Street.

The suspect was booked into jail and his bond was set at $4,000, court records indicate. He’s scheduled to be back in court at 2 p.m. Oct. 27, in front of Judge Jack Murphy.
