Driver faces multiple charges after alleged hit-and-runs

An 18-year-old Bonner Springs man accused of causing a string of hit-and-run accidents in Lawrence Friday night faces multiple municipal court charges.

Police said Andrew Gregory fled the scene of an accident about 11 p.m. Oct. 3, at 15th and Iowa Streets, and caused a set of three additional accidents. He was driving a red truck.

Police said the suspect driver rear-ended a car stopped at a red light at Ninth and Tennessee streets. After backing up and fleeing the scene of the second accident, the suspect backed his truck up and traveled north on Tennessee Street, a one-way southbound street. Officers said the suspect then swerved his truck around a patrol car that was trying to stop him, struck a parked car in the 600 block of Tennessee, and then hit a moving vehicle at Sixth and Tennessee.

The suspect was eventually stopped and arrested in the 500 block of Louisiana, and alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor, police Sgt. Bill Cory said.

Gregory was booked into Douglas County Jail on 10 city charges, including transporting an open container, possessing alcohol as a minor, attempting to elude an officer, reckless driving, and several charges related to the four accidents. He was released the next night on $1,500 bond, jail records said.
