Food drive collects for senior citizens

Lawrence Area Partners in Aging is conducting its annual drive for nonperishable food items for senior citizens.

The drive, called Soup ‘n’ Such for Seniors, will go on through November.

“Soup ‘n’ Such for Seniors is especially important this year due to rough financial times of the country,” said Gail Shaheed, of Home Instead Senior Care in Lawrence and Topeka. “Some seniors are especially vulnerable during this time as a lot of them depend on those investments to meet their day-to-day living expenses.

Here are some of the locations where drop boxes can be found: Douglas County Senior Services, 745 Vt.; Lawrence Therapy Services, 2200 Harvard Road; Drury Place at Alvamar, 1510 St. Andrews Drive; Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.; and Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, 200 Maine.
