From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 17, 1908: A doctor advised Kansas football coach Bert Kennedy to “give your men a complete rest for two or three days.” He said the 20-5 victory at Nebraska had been draining on the Jayhawks and that the rest would be good prior to a Nov. 21 battle at Iowa. KU was unbeaten in seven games and had hopes for 9-0 final record. . . .

William Jennings Bryan, the Democrat defeated in the presidential race, said he would be the candidate again if the Democratic Party needed him. . . .

One goal of State Rep. A.C. Mitchell of Lawrence was an end to drinking in passenger coaches on trains. He said he had received many complaints by people who had been embarrassed by drunks. . . .

The latest Lawrence population figure sent to the state by the Polk Co. said we had 21,120 resident, an increase of 927 over the past count. Officials say the count by the Polk group was checked and rechecked and seemed to be quite accurate.
