Soria, Aviles top Royals

? Relief pitcher Joakim Soria and shortstop Mike Aviles were named pitcher and player of the year for the Kansas City Royals. Right-hander Zack Greinke received the Joe Burke special achievement award.

Soria was a unanimous choice. The right-hander had a 1.60 ERA and 42 saves in 45 opportunities. Aviles led all major-league rookies with a .325 batting average in 102 games and had 27 doubles, four triples, 10 home runs, 51 RBIs and 68 runs scored.

Greinke was 13-10 with a 3.47 ERA in 32 starts.
