Ann Mah appeared to have won her third term in the Kansas House of Representatives during Tuesday’s general election.

Mah, a Democrat from Topeka, had 66 percent of the vote with 14 of the 27 precincts counted in the 53rd District, which includes parts of Shawnee, Osage and Douglas County.

In Douglas County, Mah received 553 votes to 287 votes garnered by Republican challenger Cecil Washington Jr. of Topeka. Only two precincts in Mah’s district are in Douglas County.

“I’m just really honored that the people decided that they like the work I’ve done and allowed me to go back to work for them,” Mah said.

Also an apparent winner in the 59th House district was Republican William Prescott of Osage City. Prescott held 54 percent of the vote with 27 of 31 precincts in the district counted. His opponent was Democrat Jim Irey of Melvern.

Only one precinct in Douglas County is in the district. Prescott received 373 votes to Irey’s 371. The district also includes Osage County and part of Franklin County.
